Joeffer Caoc Fall 09
Joeffer Caoc One word can sum up how I felt about this collection: love. It was so fresh and slick! I honestly wanted every last bit of it. For day, slouchy suits with cropped pants, sharp wool dresses and jackets with bold shoulders made it clear were in the age of power chic. Luxurious metallics ruled for evening in one-shoulder body con dresses, jumpsuits layered with silk and sheerings of chiffon. Everything was worn with liquid leather leggings and sleeves jutting out for a futuristic look. Zipper details, black sheer panels and fur gave the cohesive collection an edge.
Power pants: the stunning gold silk cropped trousers are on my wish list.

Tuesday night of Fashion Week started on a high note with Joeffer Caocs show. Ill be up front Joeffer is one of my dearest friends and I always love his collections. Hell sometimes even let me be pushy and suggest a few pieces. Tonights show was a luxe look at a high-tech 21st century superwoman a mix of black wool with steely silver jacquard, bronze jersey and shimmery gold silk. Focus was on the shoulder every career girl needs a strong shoulder to carry the weight of the world these days. I loved the bronze nylon taffeta jackets and the red boiled wool pieces but my absolute faves were the black faux hair shell top and jacket a perfect match to my pug Harley. How chic will the two of us look on our daily walks come fall?!

Back to the tents for more fun and games. Popped into the media lounge to check out the Twitteratti who are quickly turning blogs into the carrier pigeons of the fashion world. But are these Tasmanian devil-style updates a feeting obsession? Only the tweets will tell.
Joeffer Caoc drew a packed house quelle surprise! Caoc is one of the hot tickets this week including Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh. More on those tomorrow.
Caocs Fall 2009 greatest hits: the silver silk metallic dress, the faux-hair car coat, the bronze one-shoulder dress, the perfect straight leg pant, the boiled wool boyfriend jacket.
Its all in the details: puff sleeves, funnel necks, sheer backs (sexy with a capital S), tulle and organza insets and tucks and pleats.
The item to update your closet: the red silk jersey dress. Its time to make red part of your power palette.
The best new eveningwear alternative: the black two-tone jumpsuit. Best bon mots: Caocs line sheets included a sweet thank you to all the inspiring women in his life.

If Ceri, Barb and Rita are spotted in attendance, then it must be Joeffer. The frst piece is a foiled metallic silk chiffon, a liquid mercury dress worn over a jersey shell with extra-puffed shoulders, a shape that gets repeated with supersized leg-of-mutton sleeves, which are dramatic write large (though a bit precious when downsized, like under a sleeveless blazer). The fabric is also mixed into a pretty shift with different tonalities and textures criss-crossing the bodice. Still a higher-gloss shine comes from black patent cotton in a little jacket with a smocked waist, or his take on a motocross jacket with smocked cuffs. The various separates are paired with perfect, low-slung trousers that, as has become Caocs habit, have the bottom inches lobbed off. Otherwise, its all Eighties inspired, only hes taken the 80s power suit and softened it.
Its still got the wide lapels, but its loosely tied, robe-style, in pure clear red, brown or lapis blue boiled wool.
The only pattern, really, comes from a georgette Florentine endpapers print in rust, brown and red. And for accessories? PVC gauntlets and knee-high leggings.
The showstoppers towards the end are the colour of fea-market metals: tarnished brass, antique gold and pewter, like a bronze one-shoulder dress with shirring all up one side, a glimpse of a ruched shell beneath a blazer, or a futtery blouse peeking out from a mannish suit. Theres also some clever recto-verso play (a jacket top with a fuzzy textural front and a rib-knit back). Needless to say, everyones going to want to pull the fnale jumpsuit, in bold molten golden, for their fashion editorials. Impeccable. Is that Shirley Bassey singing Goldfnger I hear?
What we do is a want, not a need

The exposure we get here is incredible. Toronto designer Joeffer Caoc who showed earlier in the evening is attacking the economy with a good-little-bad-girl theme that combines black patent with smocking details borrowed from children s party dresses.
I made up my own superbionic woman from some of the women in my private life, Caoc said backstage. I fnd Im attracted to people who are really sweet or really bad.
Caoc drew kudos for his architectural shoulder frills, sash-tied suits, gold silk bodysuits with rippling jabots, and sculptural bronze jackets. In this economy, you have to make clothing compelling, said Caoc. What we do is a want, not a need. So you have to really fgure out your customer, and that makes it more fun. He paused. Maybe I should have been a psychiatrist.

Tough times call for tough chicks at least in the mind of Caoc, who sent an army of superwomen down the runway Tuesday night. They were armed with sharply tailored jackets and dresses, architectural pleating and strong shoulders. Romantic touches such as elvet ribbons behind plastic belts and pretty ruching on patent-treated black cotton dresses (they looked like patent leather) balanced the tough edges. Think Laura Ingalls Wilder
with a naughty side. Bronze and gold lame dresses and separates were feminine and wearable, especially in the cleverly draped silk metallic pieces.
Joeffer Caoc: Black patent cotton and pixelated jacquard cut at fashion week
By Andrew Sardone

Joeffer Caoc combined hard and soft textures and shapes in his pursuit of the perfect dress or Fall 2009.On the hard side, there was black patent cotton and pixelated jacquard cut into shifts with smocked waists and puff sleeve tops. Softer exits included draped silk jersey dresses and shells cut from a futtery, faux hair cloth.
Superwoman A Super Hit for Joeffer Caoc Fall 2009
Superman may have been from another planet but Joeffer Coac brought Superwoman to life last night, on the runway for his Fall 2009 collection at Toronto LG Fashion Week. No, she wasnt dressed in tights and a long red cape. Instead she was cloaked in slinky gold, silver and bronze silk and superbly tailored wool skirts and pantsuits. Joeffer drew inspiration from seasons past and melded them into one, creating a fashion forward collection. He took popular items from yesteryear and pushed towards the future with such items as the ever-popular boyfriend jacket. He kept the basic silhouette but created a robed blazer by adding a sash, then pairing it with a superfne wool straight leg pant or a wool mock wrap skirt. The superwoman of Joeffer Caocs world is a modern woman in every sense of the word. She is tough yet romantic. She is faster than a speeding bullet when it comes to carpooling the kids and getting to the offce on time, all without a bead of sweat or a strand of hair out of place. Now thats our kind of superwoman!
Joeffer Caoc:
From superheroes to real women
By Constance Droganes
Mar 17, 2009
Every year I created a superhero for myself to inspire the mood of a collection. But this year I looked to the real women in my life, says Caoc, who launched his label in 1995 and has since seen his clean, precise designs worn by such stars as Juno Award-winner Nelly Furtado, supermodel Daria Werbowy and actress Angela Bassett.
Carrying forward the strong architectural shapes and luxurious textures that defned his Spring 09 collection, Caocs fall urban classics are harder-edged but with softer tailoring. I did everything I liked this season tucking, asymmetrical shapes, says Caoc, who builds his sleek, sophisticated basics on a darker colour palette that includes black, grey, red, blue, gold and silver.
The Fall 09 feel: Its all about comfortable luxury that can be work day or night, says Caoc.Marrying techno-fabrics with classic choices such as wools, silks and cottons, Caoc says, Theres a lot of layering of textures because the fabrics are mixed up and pieced together in new ways. Everything feels good on and works for busy, real-life women 24/7.
CAOCS KEY TREND
Shoulder on: Caocs relaxed jackets and sleek coats put a stronger emphasis on shoulder construction. The silhouette is short and sleek with lots of sculptural elements in the shoulder and collar, says Caoc. Paired up with leggings and tapered pants, Caoc says, There isnt big volume to this look. Its foaty, not cumbersome.
Short stories: Dresses for day and night are cut just above the knee, says Caoc. Strong metallic infuences and trompe loeil effects with fabrics also give Caocs classic fall cuts loads of urban edge.
Runway Report: Joeffer Caoc
Joeffer Caocs show opened with a gorgeous silver metallic dress and as the models kept coming out, the bar just kept rising. Black and grey dominated (we see a recurring theme here) but punches of bright red and navy blue as well as metallic silvers and golds made this collection a defnite stand-out. Futuristic puffed sleeves, organza-detailed tuxedo shirts and dresses tied with lovely velvet bows guarantee well be keeping his line in mind when were ready for Fall shopping (although the ultra feminine blue liquid stretch dress with a sheer black back have us hoping it comes sooner, rather than later).
